Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level 3
After studying in the vineyards of Australia, Italy, Austria, France, New Zealand, California and the North Georgia Mountains, she began her formal training with L’Ecole du Vin and holds the Certified Specialist of Wine designation by the Society of Wine Educators. She recently received the Advanced Level III Certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust passing with merit and distinction upon completion of studies at The Atlanta Wine School.
In August 2011, Ms. Donaldson blended her passion for wines with her extensive 22-year experience in commercial real estate to form her new company, It’s About Wine. When she's not teaching the art of wine tasting, she is out helping clients find the best locations for their wine-related industries whether it’s a wine shop, wine bar, wine storage facility or distribution warehouse.
A special thanks to Nance Donaldson for doing such an amazing job with selecting the wonderful wine and food pairings as well as providing us with great insights into the wines.

The rest of the story?
Nance's introduction to wine occurred when her then boyfriend, now husband, Ed was working in Melbourne, Australia in the late 80s. Australia had just declared itself as the up and coming wine country of the world and vineyards were replacing grazing land by the hectare. She joined the “Bored Wives Club” and set about to taste wines from all over Australia. They always tasted “brown bag blind” so they could develop their palates without being influenced by the label or grape variety.
When she returned to Atlanta to launch her career in commercial real estate, Nance brought her passion for “brown bag blind” tasting to her friends and business associates. Each guest brought a bottle which would then be bagged and numbered secretly so no one knew which wine was coming next. She developed a rating system and the highest rated wine would win the prize of the night. She and her husband started a wine cellar in the basement to age a few wines so they could stump their guests at upcoming tasting parties.
Their wine cellar grew into a 1,500 bottle collection of wines from around the world and in 2009 Nance decided that with such a large investment she should at least know more about the wines they were collecting.
She asked her favorite wine educator, Michael Bryan, proprietor of the Atlanta Wine School, if she could enroll in one of the certification wine classes that were developed for people in the “trade” and consummate wine hobbyists. She passed the Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) class on her first attempt.
With her wine passion fortified with a foundation of knowledge, Nance launched It’s About Wine to provide wine education and entertainment to business professionals.
In 2012, the Atlanta Wine School was offering the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level 3 Advanced course. This course required passing a series of tests including multiple choice, essay and blind tasting. Nance passed the course with merit and is proud to wear the WSET pin while discovering, drinking, and educating others about wine.
